چکیده

The problem of multi-cell broadcast in cellular structured wireless networks is considered. It is shown that mobile subscribers that traverse cell boundaries while a multi-cell broadcast is in progress can experience a number of negative eeects. These eeects include severe jitter during multimedia transmissions and possible loss of critical data in mobile computing applications. As a solution, we propose a paradigm called \synchronized broadcast" for cellular networks. To enforce synchronized broadcast, we develop protocols that minimize the maximum time diierence between the local delivery inception times of a broadcast message by a group of base stations. The solutions described here also reduce the need for retransmissions of broadcast messages; thereby conserving scarce bandwidth resources. Two classes of protocols are exhibited. The rst class, called basic synchronized broadcast (BSB) protocols, is developed under the hypothesis that at most one message is pending for broadcast at any instant in time within a cluster of cells. The second class of solutions, called synchronized totally ordered broadcast (STOB) protocols, address the more general scenario in which broadcast messages are generated independently and asynchronously by multiple sources.

Broadcast Routing in Wireless Ad-Hoc Networks: A Particle Swarm optimization Approach

While routing in multi-hop packet radio networks (static Ad-hoc wireless networks), it is crucial to minimize power consumption since nodes are powered by batteries of limited capacity and it is expensive to recharge the device. This paper studies the problem of broadcast routing in radio networks. Given a network with an identified source node, any broadcast routing is considered as a directed...

Performance analysis of broadcast in mobile ad hoc networks with synchronized and non-synchronized reception

Analyzing the performance of broadcast in mobile ad hoc networks is necessary because of the importance of broadcast in multiuser communications and the characteristic difference between wireless communications and wired communications. If the time lag between collided packets is small on the order of a symbol, the reception is synchronized; otherwise, the reception is non-synchronized. We find...

Synchronization Method of Broadcast Messages for Beamforming Performance in Mobile WiMAX Networks

We report that broadcast messages in Mobile WiMAX networks should be synchronized throughout all the base stations to gain the benefit of beamforming technique. A simple synchronization implementation of broadcast messages in Mobile WiMAX networks is presented. Using this technique, the interference between broadcast messages and beamformed messages can be reduced.

Evaluation of Relative Clock Stability in Cellular Networks

The relative stability of base transceiver station (BTS) clocks in cellular networks is studied. It is demonstrated that although BTS clocks are not perfectly synchronized to GPS, they are relatively stable with respect to each other, permitting exclusive navigation with cellular signals in the absence of global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals. A navigation observable is developed le...
